In 1954, the Bay Area Rapid Transit system was in the early planning stages, and one of the competing proposals was for a citywide rapid transit monorail, proposed by Monorail Engineering & Construction, of Los Angeles.  This is the proposal, which obviously was never built; it would've converted the existing streetcar lines to monorail and elevated them above the streets.
