Philadelphia's trolley system was truly massive before it was dismantled bit by bit until the 1990s, and it was a legitimate challenge to try to depict everything so that it'd fit on one poster.  This is because the Philadelphia Transportation Co. was the heir to no less than 18 (!) different trolley companies, which date back to the 1870s.  Because of that, there really was a trolley within a quarter-mile of most Philadelphians.

This map was a huge challenge to make, because of the sheer number and complexity of the routing patterns, especially in North Philly, where the whole thing turns into spaghetti.  (At least Center City Philadelphia is on a grid!) Eventually, in the 1960s, the whole system would come under public ownership, most of the system was shut down, and the only trolley routes surviving today are Routes 101 and 102 in the suburbs, the 15 on Girard Ave, and the Subway Surface lines, which use the tunnel through Center City Philadelphia.
